It’s June, and that means that it’s time for Teton County to start sending out assessment notices.  I encourage all owners to review their assessment notices, and to contact Teton County Assessor IMMEDIATELY if they feel that their property is overvalued for taxation, or if they notice anything “funny” about the notice.  There is a very short window in which an owner has the ability to appeal to the County for a reduction in assessed value.

I realize that many people are not like me, and therefore probably don’t know or care where their tax dollars go, but the above link is provided my Teton County to show the budget and tax distribution for 2012.  There are also some very interesting facts and a great explanation of the levy rates, and how they work for taxation.

Please keep in mind that you will need to provide valid information to appeal to the County for a reduction in your assessed value.  You can also ask the County how they came upon your value, and what comps were used.

Update (6/6/12)!  Ironically I just received my assessment notices in the mail.  Appeals must be made to the County (on their form, of course) by June 25, 2012.
